Schenker Industrial Logistics offers to Fujitsu Siemens a more economical
solution that is
better in terms of quality as well
|
| |
|
Thanks
to a particularly efficient logistics solution offered by Schenker
Industrial Logistics, Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH (FSC) as product
manufacturer and Fujitsu Siemens Computers IT Product Services GmbH & Co KG
as IT service provider have in recent months been able to achieve
considerable qualitative improvements in spare parts services to their
customers in a two-step approach. At the same time, the new services work
out cheaper.
As a leading European supplier of IT services, Fujitsu Siemens Computers
stands for top-quality IT products and comprehensive services. The joint
venture of Fujitsu and Siemens is consistently designed to offer customers
the opportunity of shaping their business processes more flexibly, reliably
and competitively. An important milestone on the path towards improved
service quality is to be seen in the solution for centralized spare parts
supply, jointly developed with Schenker Industrial Logistics.
In Ginsheim-Gustavsburg near Frankfurt am Main the company set up an
ultra-modern logistics center in the space of just 18 weeks, and fitted it
out with the most modern technology. The entire spare parts supply system of
Fujitsu Siemens Computers was transferred to the new site, which was put
into operation as a central warehouse with an initial stock of some 12,000
different articles.
Some 60 employees of Schenker Industrial Logistics receive delivery of 1,500
euro pallets of computer parts every month. These must be unpacked, checked,
and professionally stored. To look after this quality electronics equipment,
the warehouse, which measures more than 10,000 square meters, had to be
equipped with special antistatic flooring and workstations. Around 3000
transport orders are taken out of stock every day – picked and packed and
made ready for dispatch, with all customs clearance procedures dealt with.
Some 2400 consignments – packages and pallets – leave the logistics center
for dispatch to the customer every day – or 70,000 shipments a month. “It
must be said, though, that our aim is not quantity but quality,” stresses
Dr. Bernd-Rüdiger Pahnke. For Fujitsu Siemens Computers, he says, maximum
precision in the supply of spare parts is a top priority. The customers of
the IT company depend on a reliable spare parts supply – after all, any
production downtime could result in severe losses of output.

RFID in
sea freight provides greater transparency in the supply chain
|
| |
|
Today
at the Port of Hamburg Schenker put into service ten containers equipped
with RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) technology. The official commissioning of the new equipment
took place in the presence of
customers and industrial partners from the Port. This is the first step in a
practical test to examine the
suitability of new security technology for global freight transport. The new
containers will be used in a
shuttle service between Hamburg and Hong Kong.
An ‘RFID tag’, an electronic labeling, is used to improve the transparency
of the supply chain. “This is
pioneering work we are doing for our sea freight customers, especially for
groupage shipments,” emphasized
Dr. Wolfgang Dräger, Vice President Ocean freight, Schenker.

Also for DB Logistics - especially for Schenker Global Sports Events - the

particular obtained a very positive response in all of the media as well.
Also FIFA President Joseph Blatter expressly stressed that the logistics had

Board of Management of Deutsche Bahn: “We especially thank the colleagues
from Schenker for handling the complete logistics during the World Cup and
even our very well noticed Welcome-travels in such a perfect manner. We

On the ball right round the clock for the 2006 FIFA World Cup
|
| |
|
Hardly
ever before has a sports event made such demands on logistics. For the 2006
FIFA World Cup™ in recent weeks Schenker has been providing a great many
services practically right round the clock. At times there have been as many
as 400 employees working at the twelve stadiums and at the media centers.
Schenker's team had the support of more than 100 other employees who were
involved in the background and in the home countries of the footballers.
Even star striker Zinedine Zidane had a personal demonstration of Schenker's
flexibility. After a press conference in Stuttgart, he found that he had
left his training bag in the car in which he had driven to the stadium.
Schenker's manager on site was able to locate the vehicle, and an employee
was passed the bag at the outermost security ring and brought it to Zidane's
cubicle at a run. His efforts were gratefully rewarded with a sweatband in
the French national colors.
